Meditation
In India, meditation is a timeless practice, deeply woven into the country’s spiritual and cultural fabric—from the ancient Vedic age to modern times. It is intrinsic to reconnecting with your inner self; it guides you to self-discovery, brings the heart and mind into alignment, and streamlines your being to resonate as one with the universe. As you progress in your meditation practice, you ease into a state of effortlessness, tapping into your innermost resources to optimise your true potential.
We support you to release the emotions that weigh you down and the conditioning that blocks you, and emerge as a lighter, freer spirit. We work with you to learn how to be comfortable with yourself, to silence the mind, and to focus on the present moment. Instilling gratitude, kindness, and compassion elevates your energy and creates a positive ripple effect, not only within you but also on those who are in your immediate environment, as you start to view life from a heightened perspective.
As you rise above the daily stressors of life, you begin to perceive life differently. As you move towards deeper self-enquiry, you learn the subtle nuances of how to tap into your internal resources to augment your potential. Once you act on them, your creative energies start flowing freely.
Yoga Nidra
Yoga Nidra, also known as Yogic Sleep, is a practice in Pratyahara, withdrawal from external stimuli. At the intersection of sleep and awakening is a state of restful awareness. Your senses are calm, and your mind is quiet, detached from the past and future. You become fully aware, focusing on being in the present moment. As your awareness deepens, you release mental clutter. You allow false impressions, unprocessed emotions, judgements and stress to fade away. You stop overthinking, letting go of your attachments and aversions to the outcome of any given situation. You rise above the ‘noise’ and align with the flow of the universe.
Trataka
Trataka, or Candle Meditation, a practice in Dharana–focused concentration–is a panacea for our mental health and well-being. Senses are windows to the mind, and by regulating the senses, one can regulate the mind. Dharana quietens the mind, deepens our awareness and expands our consciousness. The practice involves tying the sense of sight to a single–the candle flame. Gazing steadily into a candle’s flame hones your focus and concentration. This helps to declutter the mind, improves memory and mental clarity, corrects vision (eyesight) and improves sleep quality.
Healing Meditation
Our mind is constantly on the move. It buzzes with thoughts, emotions and perceptions, but it is precisely this pattern of overthinking that holds us back from synchronising with the flow of the universe. When we intentionally choose silence and stillness over stress, we move into alignment. This is the point of departure from where we take the first steps on our spiritual journey; it culminates in the vision that reveals our highest potential. Meditation is the key to unlocking that potential. It eases out the blockages, enhancing energy in those areas of your being that need it. It brings you into a state of optimal physical and emotional equilibrium. Awareness and clarity get infused into those parts of your being and your lives that need it most and help you to release whatever it is that hinders your growth. In meditation, we strive towards Dharana, which is the profound focus. Contrary to what many believe, meditation is not about simply staring into space in the hope that a ray of light will illuminate the mind. It is a supremely conscious effort to train one’s concentration and master the thoughts that derail us from our focus. It requires Pratyahara, which involves withdrawing from external stimuli, to eliminate all distractions.
Sound Meditation
Sound Meditation, also known as Mantra or Japa Meditation, is a practice in Nada Yoga. We meditate on the sacred mantra ‘Hum Sah So Hum’, which means ‘I am that – the Universal Consciousness’. We contemplate the meaning of the Mantra as we chant it. This contemplation allows us to expand our limited or individual consciousness, which is the cause of fear, stress, and anxiety. When you immerse yourself in the act of listening to sounds, it helps in anchoring your awareness in the here and now. Distractions dissipate, thereby ushering in a meditative state. By expanding our consciousness beyond ourselves, we heighten our perspective and begin to identify with a larger, universal reality. Sound Meditation has many therapeutic benefits. It calms and relaxes the body and mind, improves focus and concentration, reduces fear, anxiety and aggression, and brings about peace, harmony and joy.
Walking Meditation
This ancient practice allows you to get in tune with your own rhythm. The focus is on taking one step at a time, remaining mindful of your posture and the sensations of walking itself. Mindful walking is a wonderful way to ground yourself and learn how to live in the here and now. It opens the mind and brings you into the present moment, making you supremely aware of yourself and your surroundings. At Shreyas, you may choose to walk through our lush green landscape, visit our organic farm, or take a turn along the reflexology pathway which gently kneads the soles of your feet as you take each step.
Cyclic Meditation
A moving meditation technique derived from Mandukhya Upanishad, a part of the ancient Indian texts, combines physical postures with relaxation, emphasising relaxed awareness. It is a practice that involves cycles of stimulation and relaxation. Our experienced teachers guide you through a sequence of postures, focusing on both physical and mental relaxation. The emphasis is on cultivating awareness of the body and breath, promoting a state of calm and rejuvenation. The benefits of cyclic meditation include stress reduction, elevated moods, and enhanced sleep quality. It can also improve the gut-brain axis connection essential for body-mind healing.
