How do you combine Yoga and Ayurveda? What are the benefits?
At Shreyas Yoga Retreat we believe that Yoga and Ayurveda go hand in hand and you can’t really have one without the other. Both Ayurveda and Yoga originate from Atharva Veda and Yajur Veda (ancient Sanskrit texts ) and they both stress the importance of the Pancha Maha boothas (5 elements), balance between body & mind, Chakras, Ahara (food), cleansing/elimination process (shuddhi kriyas) hence both of them are considered sister sciences.
When you come and stay at Shreyas we design a retreat program which combines both Ayurveda and Yoga. We would recommend asanas (postures) and pranayama (breathing techniques) which would help in balancing your doshas , dhathus (tissue), and help keep your mind to an optimum level. This would all be done in accordance with the body’s natural constitution to ensure balance was maintained.
We believe in a combined preventative, rejuvenating and curative Ayurvedic approach. This means that we help individuals to attain/maintain his/her health at an optimum level, creating awareness and giving a better understanding about a healthy body & mind. This is achieved through some highly effective Ayurveda.
Our curative approach mainly focuses on balancing the vitiated doshas (humors) which are the root cause of diseases which occur due to factors like improper food habits & lifestyle.
What kind of ailments or conditions can Ayurveda and Yoga help with?
All kinds of things from lower back pain and knee pain to insomnia and stress related issue conditions. For example: a person with lower back issue, we would recommend ayurveda treatments like Kati Vasty and Choorna Pinda Swedana and yoga postures like Ardha kati chakrasana (Lateral Arc posture) Bhujangasana (Cobra posture) Shalabasana (Locust posture ). The combination of both Yoga and Ayurveda would also help to shorten the convalescence period of those with back injuries.
