Spa India

The Spa at Shreyas, India

The comfort, warmth and reassurance of touch at spas can improve the body’s well being by stimulating its own natural healing abilities, giving a sense of well being and restoring both the physical and psychological self.

Massages at the spa at one of India's the best known yoga boutique retreats, offer the ideal solution to these damaging effects of accumulated stress and aids in harmonizing a troubled body and mind. Touch is a simple means of communication, comfort and something that we all do quite naturally. With a little willingness and commitment this ‘natural’ talent can be turned into a creative skill. Regular massage strengthens and tones the entire body system. It can stimulate or alternately calm the nervous system, help ease tension, stiffness and pain leaving the recipient with an enhanced sense of well being.

MASSAGES

BALINESE MASSAGE

This is an oil-based massage that involves deep manipulation of the body’s soft tissue. Balinese massage concentrates primarily on the connective tissue of the muscles. The therapist uses smooth but deep thumb pushes along each individual muscle, following the course of the body’s energy channels (meridians). It is an excellent therapy for treating stiff and painful muscles and is also used in the treatment of conditions of the abdominal organs. A one-hour session of this kind of massage is enough to leave you feeling relaxed, refreshed, rejuvenated and re-energized.

THAI MASSAGE

Traditional Thai Massage is a fusion of eastern bodywork techniques ranging from Acupressure to Yoga for a truly Zen-like experience. A blend of yoga, acupressure and reflexology, Traditional Thai Massage is designed to relax and open the body’s natural energy flow. Unlike the scooping and continuous strokes of western-style massage, Traditional Thai Massage uses point pressure, muscle stretching and compression done in a rhythmic moment of gentle rocking. Thai massage has been called Lazy Man’s Yoga or Yoga for two – because of the passive range of motion on the part of the receiver. The therapist helps stretch your body into a variety of yoga-like positions, whilst giving manual compression strokes on the muscles to further enhance the stretch and release tension.

For your session, please wear loose and comfortable clothing. No oils are used in a traditional Thai Massage session and it is performed on a floor mat or a floor mat or a low massage bed.

SWEDISH MASSAGE

Swedish massage was developed in the 1700’s by a Swedish doctor named Per Henrik Ling. The term “Swedish Massage” refers to a variety of techniques specifically designed to relax muscles by applying pressure to them against deeper muscles and bones, and rubbing in the same direction as the flow of blood returning to the heart.

The main purpose of Swedish massage is to increase the oxygen flow in the blood and release toxins from the muscles. Stimulating the skin and nervous system and soothing the nerves, it reduces stress, both emotional and physical.

AROMATHERAPY MASSAGE

Specially blended essential oils are used in this massage, which works as a stimulant as well as relaxant. It is good for chronic conditions such as stress, insomnia, menstrual problems, hypertension and general stiffness of joints, low energy and fatigue.

REJUVENATING AYURVEDIC TREATMENTS

Ayurveda is the oldest system of codified medical system and lifestyle management science known to mankind with a history of at least 5000 years. It is a combination of two words, ‘Ayus’ meaning life and ‘Veda’ meaning knowledge. Traditionally Veda refers to the vast repository of revealed knowledge that is considered to be eternal and endless in nature. With passage of time, the entire body of Veda was classified into four by Sage Veda Vyasa as Rig, Yajus, Sama and Atharva. Ayurveda is a part of Atharva Veda.

Treatments and Therapies of Ayurveda are designed to purify the system (i.e. our body) and enhance our immunity by eliminating toxins accumulated due to various reasons including lifestyle issues. At Shreyas, the following time tested treatments are offered to our guests. Most Ayurvedic treatments begin with Abhyanga as it increases the efficiency of other treatments to follow.

ABHYANGA

SYNCHRONIZED ABHYANGA

This is a unique massage done by two therapists, working in unison, to bring about a harmonious sense of “well being”.

SHIRODHARA

This process is traditionally done immediately after Abhyanga. Here therapeutic oils are poured in a continuous stream (to bathe the head) directed to the mid fore head. This “dhara” helps in calming the mind. It also helps in relaxing and revitalizing the central nervous system apart from helping to alleviate insomnia and depression. Depending on the body type and season oil / milk / buttermilk is used to enhance the therapeutic benefits.

UDWARTHANAM

It cleanses the stomach and small intestine. Special diet is provided after this treatment to give rest to the digestive system and for the body to regain strength. After purgation therapy rest or light activity is recommended.

PATRA PINDA SWEDAM

This treatment begins with a full body oil massage done in unison by two therapists. Mild pressure is applied on either side with the help of treated herbal leaves bundled in muslin cloth and warmed frequently in medicated oil. This helps in better penetration of oils in to the body. It also improves blood circulation, opens the skin pores and helps in relaxing the body completely.

CHOORNA PINDA SWEDAM

This treatment begins with oil application and full body massage done in unison by two therapists. This is followed by a massage with herbal powders bundled in muslin cloth. This helps in increased perspiration, which in turn removes the toxins and relaxes the muscles.

SARVANGA DHARA

This is a combination of two classical Ayurvedic therapies. It begins with a full body oil massage, followed by pouring large quantities of warm medicated oil over the body and massage by two therapists. It ends with gentle massage and removal of excess oil. It helps in building immunity and rejuvenating the body completely.

NASYAM

This is a therapeutic treatment for the nose, throat, sinuses and head. The face, shoulders and chest are massaged with medicated oils to increase perspiration. This is followed by pouring measured quantity of medicated oil into the nostrils followed by a gentle massage around nose, chest, palms and feet.
