SPIRITUAL AWAKENINGS An 8-day Spiritual Retreat Saturday, 15th December – Saturday, 22nd December 2007 |
|
These are the immortal words of Swami Vivekananda, one of India’s leading mystics and spiritual reformers of the late 20th century. He was referring from the perennial philosophy of Vedanta, the bedrock of Yoga and Spirituality in India. Vedanta is the knowledge portion of a vast body of work called the Vedas (“To Know/ Knowledge”). These scriptures deal with the essential questions that all of us face at some stage in our lives. What is my life about? Who am I? How can I be happy in this world? To understand more about our Self, we are seeking guidance from the wisdom contained within the Indian Spiritual Tradition of Vedanta. This universally applicable philosophy, when correctly understood and assiduously practiced, enables us to overcome any and all conflicts of life. It contains within it the highest of truths (that Self-realization is the goal of life) and also provides the means (the various processes of Yoga) to achieve this goal. The distilled essence of Vedanta can be found in the Bhagavad Gita – which will be extensively drawn upon during this retreat. As we dive deeper into this beautiful tradition, it provides us with the necessary qualities of excellence, which when manifested, allow us to discover the spiritual qualities within us. |
